Brooklyneer: [brook-luh-neer]

Brooklyneer: [brook-luh-neer]

Address: 220 West Houston Street

(Hudson Square/SoHo)

About:

Ok, I found this little gem with a girlfriend of mine last night, we were on our way to check out another bar. It caught my eye because I noticed a little rustic sign out front, dim lighting and decided to walk over and peek inside. (Keep in mind, I used to work in this neighborhood (Hudson Square) and always complained how there was no cool, laid back bars to hang at.) When I ventured inside I discovered it was a bar dedicated to pay tribute to Brooklyn and bring artisanal food and drink to Manhattan. (Gone are days of restaurateurs opening up “Manhattan spots” in Brooklyn, but now people are reversing the food chain and opening “Brooklyn spots” in Manhattan.) This place made my radar (blog) not because of its clever name “Brooklyneer” but mainly because I just felt happy being inside. I’m sure this feeling was brought on due to it’s cozy atmosphere; long bar, wooden paneling on the floors and ceilings, vintage wallpaper and great Brooklyn beers on tap. It actually had Coney Island Lager on tap which is my favorite beer and nearly impossible to find at most NYC bars. It had a carefully crafted bar menu that looked interesting although I didn’t stay for dinner. If I was ever working or visiting in this area again I would definitely go back.
